Utility Project Engineer

Position Description

The open position is to facilitate and manage the relocation, adjustment, removal, and addition of utilities along NCDOT highways and rights of way. Experience in developing utility relocation strategies and providing coordination and relocation services to accomplish removal, relocation, and modification of utility facilities (water, sewer, gas, electric, telecommunication, etc.) impacted by highway improvement projects including the development of Utility Relocation Agreements and acquiring Encroachment Agreements from utility owners.

The applicant should have the ability to use computers for office work (MS Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams), Bluebeam, and extensive experience with CAD (MicroStation, GEOPAK). A working knowledge of NCDOT policies for accommodating utilities and NCDEQ permitting regulations for water and sewer design is needed. Travel to field sites for meetings and investigations is required. Bachelor’s degree in an applicable field of engineering from an appropriately accredited institution and eight (8) years of progressively responsible experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Qualification requires registration as a professional engineer by the North Carolina Board of Examiners for Engineers and Surveyors.
