South Rome Master Plan for Redevelopment

The South Rome Redevelopment Corporation contracted with WK Dickson to produce the South Rome Redevelopment Master Plan. The document is composed of three basic components: economic analysis and housing, transportation options, and mobility and redevelopment opportunities. Ultimately, the goal for the South Rome Redevelopment Master Plan was to provide a realistic program for implementing those projects, as well as fostering the redevelopment and revitalization of South Rome. Redevelopment included workforce housing strategies, a revitalized waterfront commercial node, and an arts village district to encourage visitation to the Historic Myrtle Hill Cemetery, plus the introduction of miced-use development along South Broad Street. Also included were neighborhood commercial, and neighborhood parks and greespace. The economic study served as the basis for the redevelopment process and defined the implementation of each project and program. By determining the need of the community, the WK Dickson team established a workable strategy for redevelopment using the principles of Smart Growth and New Urbanism.
