Five Points Drainage Improvement Project, Raleigh, NC
WK Dickson evaluated the hydrologic and hydraulic characteristics of the Five Points watershed. There were several locations along the drainage system that did not meet the City of Raleigh’s or, where applicable, the North Carolina Department of Transportation’s (NCDOT’s) design requirements. A total of seven alternatives were evaluated and presented to the City for consideration as part of the City Design and Alternative Analyses. For this project, SWMM was used to analyze the entire drainage network simultaneously in one model. In addition to SWMM, HEC-RAS was used on the open channel systems at the downstream end of project. Hydraflow Storm Sewers 2011, an extension of AutoCAD Civil 3D, was used to evaluate the hydraulic capacity of closed systems and roadway spread throughout the project area. Project included detailed construction drawings and contract documents for construction bids in addition to developing applications for regulatory permitting, utility conflict resolution and utility relocation design, surveying for final design, surveying and document preparation for required temporary and/or permanent easements, and support for public meetings.
