Critical Utility Assessment Tool, City of Durham, NC

WK Dickson developed a criticality assessment tool that evaluated the likelihood and consequence of failure for 61,000 linear assets within the water distribution network and 66,000 assets in the sanitary sewer collection system. The tool uses a variety of input information to more clearly determine the most vulnerable and critical assets in the system in a GIS-centric approach that incorporates a variety of continuously changing information. The tool provides a defensible approach to systematic rehabilitation and replacement of assets in conjunction with other master planning, modeling and budgeting efforts.
