Caswell Beach Dune Infiltration, Caswell Beach, NC

Portions
of Caswell Beach Road had become impassible to passenger vehicles during moderate
rainfall events and in some cases, remained impassable for more than eight hours after the storm had passed. The road is the only ingress/egress for approximately 240 residents, the Duke Energy
Progress Nuclear Pumping Station, the United States Coast Guard Station Oak
Island, and the North Carolina Baptist Assembly grounds at Fort Caswell. WK
Dickson evaluated the feasibility of pumping flood waters from four
critical flooding areas to four local dune infiltration systems. A conceptual
design report was prepared that includes system locations and potential routes
for stormwater pipe layouts, dune infiltration system suitability and layout,
required easements, required permitting, planning level construction cost
estimate, and feasibility report.
