NC State Ports Authority Transit Road & Rail Repairs, Wilmington, NC

This project included design of repairs and improvements to approximately 4,500 LF of the main 2-lane access route into the north end of the Port of Wilmington, also known as Transit Road. The project included subsurface investigation of road conditions, evaluation of three stormwater lift stations and several thousand feet of railroad siding upgrade. The roadway was completely rebuilt necessitating a new vertical alignment and connections to the intersecting roadways throughout the port. Drainage improvements to help move water off the pavement surface were a key component to improving the pavement section through this area, which is heavily traveled by machinery and trucking. The project also included resurfacing and realignment of nearly 1/2 mile of railroad track within the project area as well as approximately 1/4 mile of new track installation with switches.
