The recently passed Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Acts includes significant funding for water infrastructure to be allotted over the next 5 years through the State Revolving Fund (SRF) programs. The USEPA recently notified states that they will be releasing the first of five annual tranches of funding from this legislation. This initial allotment of $7.4B is in addition to the normal SRF annual allocations and includes:
- $3B for lead service line replacement
- $1.9B each in general supplemental funds for both the Drinking Water and Clean Water SRF programs
- $800M for emerging contaminants through the Drinking Water SRF
- $100M for emerging contaminants through the Clean Water SRF
These SRF funds are allocated to each state based on a formula grant but, suffice it to say, there will be significantly more water funding available in each state for 2022!
