WATERSHED SCIENCES
“The LAND ETHIC simply enlarges the boundary of the community to include soils, waters, plants, and animals.”
. ................................................................- Aldo Leopold
A watershed is a complex and valuable ecosystem that includes the land, plants, animals, and network of streams within it. Streams are increasingly recognized as critical environmental systems supporting interdependent uses and values.
To achieve long-lasting success on stream-restoration projects demands a comprehensive understanding of the physical and biological processes occurring within a channel and the adjacent riparian areas.
WK Dickson evaluates the entire contributing watershed for each of our stream-restoration projects. This investigation provides team members with a more inclusive understanding of the channel dynamics, and allows us to examine the indirect, yet ongoing, impacts within the channel’s reach that are often the cause of stream bank failure.
Water Resource Management has always been a major practice area for WK Dickson, hinging on continuously evolving cutting-edge technical solutions. In Spring 2002, we established the Watershed Sciences Group as a discreet practice area to better serve clients’ natural resource conservation and management needs.
