GREENWAYS & TRAILS
Greenways are a special kind of linear landscape. Policies for their design and planning can make a major contribution to environmental quality and its enjoyment by the public. With the surge of public support and government funding for open space preservation, greenways have become an important component of local, county, and state preservation efforts. These corridors of open space, when properly designed, developed, and managed, offer recreational, environmental, economic, and transportation related benefits.
Many of our trails and greenways are designed for bicycle and pedestrian traffic only. When WK Dickson plans a trail and greenway area it often includes connections to neighborhoods, schools, historic sites, scenic natural areas, rest areas, picnic areas, amenities, and business districts.
Trail and greenway planning and design have become a specialty for WK Dickson. We have designed or master planned over 400 miles of award winning greenways, trails, and rail-trails throughout the southeastern United States.
Areas of expertise include:
- Trail and footpath design
- Landscape and hardscape design
- Trail feasibility studies
- Economic impact statements
