GEOGRAPHIC INFORMATION SYSTEMS (GIS)

The goal of the GIS solutions we deploy is to allow the end user to retrieve vital information quickly – both in the office and out in the field.

WK Dickson's GIS experts combine layers of information about a place to give one a better understanding of that place. Determining what layers of information are combined depends on the data's purpose—finding the best location for a new store, analyzing environmental damage, accessing a city's fire hydrant inventories, and so on.

Including GIS technology from WK Dickson on a project adds a powerful new layer to existing technology resources enabling state and local departments to extend the investment and capabilities of their current information infrastructure.

As a result clients are able to cut costs, enhance services, and allow many departments to operate as a more unified entity. At the local level, GIS solutions help solve this dilemma by allowing municipalities to enhance public services in an efficient, cost-effective manner.

GIS systems have been developed to help agencies providing aid to Afghanistan find important information such as climate data, maps, geographic data, and links to various organizations involved in relief efforts.

NOAA's National Geodetic Survey and Aircraft Operations Center used GIS to map the wreckage of the World Trade Center in support of recovery and cleanup efforts following the Sept. 11 terrorist attack.

GIS applications were used on the planet Mars to select suitable landing sites for the Mars Exploration Rovers.
