TRAFFIC STUDIES

WK Dickson planners can conduct traffic studies to evaluate a transportation system serving either a metropolitan or rural area and to identify any improvements necessary to accommodate existing or projected traffic volumes.

Our detailed studies consist of data collection, including existing traffic volumes and turning movement counts, projected traffic volumes, and the identification of required improvements such as traffic calming devices. Any identified improvements may include a feasibility analysis, including identification of impacted properties, impacted structures, alternate alignments, physical constraints and roadway design criteria to be used.

WK Dickson's evaluations are used to help cities control traffic movement and to provide road users with better information upon which to base travel decisions. By using these practices, community transportation professionals can operate their transportation system more efficiently and safely.

Areas of expertise include:

  • Route development studies
  • Pedestrian access mobility plans
  • Traffic impact statements
  • Local area traffic management
  • Intersection modeling
  • Parking studies
  • Public meeting facilitation

Traffic jams of New York, San Francisco and Paris are well known - beaten only by those in Seattle where a driver annually spends 59 hours stuck in traffic.

In 45 BC, Rome banned all vehicles from within the city. Vehicles, including horses, were allowed only at night... because of traffic.

Traffic lights were used even before the advent of the automobile.

About a quarter of the world still drives on the left, and the countries that do are mostly old British colonies.
